this is a painting of trees using acrylic paint. One new skill used was generally using acrylic paint and blending it to create the right shade of color. The main art elements are color, value and space. Color is used to create value, as the lighter colors are in the background and darker colors in the foreground. This helps make it look more realistic and 3-dimensional rather than a flat painting. Space is used in addition to create value, since it helps with avoiding making the whole painting look cluttered and everything is placed relative to where it should be in the setting. The whole painting expresses the mood of a majestic and unreal place.
This assignment was a dreamtime painting. The subject is a busy city at night and I used acrylic paint. One new skill used was creating deliberate marks to tell a story. The main art elements were line and shape. Lines are a majority of what makes up the painting as they're what makes it abstract rather than drawing the specific object, and similar to that, basic shapes are used to imply specific objects as well. Together, these create a very forward and busy motion.
This assignment is of a block print done with ink on paper of a flower. A new skill used in this was the overall carving process and how i made each value, for example cross hatching to create dots. The main art elements are value, space, and texture. Value is used to help differentiate between the light and dark areas of the image since it's all using a solid color, and this is generally what helps create texture. Space is used because there's a background and foreground, and the entirety of the image is used. These help create a calm mood.
This is a drawing of a flower using pen and ink. One new skill used in this was using cross hatching, hatching and stippling to create value and texture. The main art elements are line, value and texture. Line is used in the hatching and cross hatching to create value, which is also created by stippling. It creates an emphasis in the background, and also creates shape in the center of the flower. This creates the feeling of a still print with different values.
This is a self portrait painting using watercolor. One new skill was using complementary colors to make the image stand out more. The main art elements used were value and color. Value helped define edges and were used to differentiate the shades and highlights instead of using solid line. Color is tied in with value, as I'm using darker and lighter shades of color in order to create the shade and effect that makes the fact look more round rather than flat. This is a still painting that doesn't really create a mood but rather is like a picture of what I look like.
This is a watercolor painting of a macro still life. The subject matter is a lace pumpkin with a background that complements the main color. One new skill used in this assignment was using complementary colors to improve the overall quality. The main art elements are value, color and texture. Value helps with the texture; I had to use different shades of orange to emphasize the lace on the pumpkin and give it depth. This also ties in with color, as I mixed many different shades of orange and used a complementary color to emphasize the orange. This is a very still painting that gives the idea of a snapshot. There's not a lot of movement or flow.
this assignment is a one point perspective hall drawing. It looks like the hall across from the room and it's done with pencil. One skill I learned in this assignment was using value in shading to create a sense of perspective. The main art elements are lines to create one point perspective, value to create depth, and space to also add to perspective and make sure there's enough room between each object. These help create the idea of a snapshot, since it's very still and shows what the hall looks like.
This is a room drawing using one point perspective. It's a drawing of a room with different furniture all connecting to one vanishing point, and it's using pencil. One new skill that was used in this project is proportion. I had to make sure that the furniture got smaller towards the end of the room and stayed bigger as it was more near the viewer. The main art elements I used were line and space. Lines created most of the furniture, and space was used to make sure it was proportioned right and made sense together. This all represents the idea of a calming room.
This is a drawing of boxes in space all connecting to a single vanishing point using pencil. A new skill I used while drawing this was one point perspective. I used a ruler so that the lines were straight and all connected to the same point evenly. The main elements are lines and value. The lines help everything connect to each other and create the perspective, and value helps show where on the drawing it lays. The boxes in front are darker, and the ones in the back are lighter with less value. I also used movement in the composition; all of the boxes look like they're gong to one space and this helps creates a sort of flow. The biggest one used though is proportion, as the boxes are all different shapes and sizes and the overlapping helps with this. These art elements combined help it create the idea of overlapping and boxes in space connecting to the one single vanishing point.
